The New

brand new bandcamp home page

Today we’re launching a brand new home page that’s focused on promoting all the incredible music on Bandcamp. The centerpiece is the Bandcamp Weekly show, hosted by Andrew Jervis. Andrew joins us from the renowned Ubiquity Records, where he headed up A&R for 14 years, and the Friday Night Session, which he hosted and produced at KUSF for the past 17. Every Tuesday he’ll bring you an hour’s worth of the best tunes on Bandcamp – exclusives, previews, recent faves, classics, and obscurities from around the world.

We’re not only excited about the music Andrew will be playing, but also by the way we’re presenting it. Unlike my car stereo, which coyly revealed that I heard MACKLEM this morning, the weekly show displays the current track’s cover art, album name, related merch, artist name, bio image and location, and of course lets you buy or wishlist all the music on the spot. Each week we also highlight a gorgeous illustration of a featured artist, starting this week with Helado Negro, rendered by the talented Oliver Barrett. We’ve got a batch of our favorite illustrators lined up and can’t wait to share their work with you.

Continuing with the editorial focus, you’ll see that we now have a regular feature (Andrew interviews R&B beat-making supremo Shlohmo this first week), a steady stream of all that is new & notable, and curated Bandcamp collections by special guests (courtesy of Bandcamp for Fans, and kicked off by eccentric Seattle MCs THEESatisfaction and Portland’s heavy-rocking Red Fang).

We’ve also moved Discover front-and-center and added wishlisting, staff picks, and the ability to slice by daily sales. Discover has driven more than 30,000 record sales in its previously somewhat obscure location, so it was high time we gave it front page placement.

Thanks, and hope you enjoy the show!

Ah! You guys! Always making things prettier. Love the illustrator collaboration too. High five.

Looks cool. Where do I go now to hear music by artists from a particular location?

  3. Posted April 10, 2013 at 12:47 am | Permalink

Thanks Sam. You can still go directly to, or click the “browse by tags” link on the home page.

  4. Posted April 10, 2013 at 12:53 am | Permalink

Awesome! Just please, please make sure of the following things:

-That the site remains cross-browser compatible forever (no problem so far)

-That the front page doesn’t become overly commercial, favoring big name artists and mainstream genres such as pop at the detriment of unknown artists.

-That the design remains easy to use, unlike Facebook and Youtube after some changes in the past.

    Keep up the good work!

It’s fantastic. So happy you guys have done this. And double thumbs for starting a weekly. Great idea.

Big ups for launching the curated collections with Red Fang! Love Discover being on the homepage too – great move.

Do you guys have any plans to allow seperate artist/fan sign-ins? Reason being is that I’m permanently logged in to my artist account, so wishlisting/following always involves two rounds of logging in and out.

Mart, sounds like you want to be logged in to your fan account and artist account at the same time? You can set that up at the time you create the fan account, but if you missed that chance you should write in to support and we’ll do what we can. (You can also add add’l paypal emails to your fan account if your band account sells from a different one.)

Brilliant idea, guys. Glad to see you’re so actively promoting artists. I still love this site.

Hey from Seattle. Great work on the updated design and site changes!

Say – how would one submit their BandCamp album / page for consideration for Andrew Jervis’ show? Would love to submit some of my stuff and stuff by other killer local artists here in Seattle.

Thanks – keep making things groovy on the interweb ;-)

  14. Posted April 10, 2013 at 2:35 pm | Permalink

Thanks Josh (and this is to Chandler too): there’s no formal submission process for the show or editorial features – simply being on Bandcamp is enough. Andrew will be digging through the site and listening non-stop.

This is great! I’m excited to browse new music!

Questions: is there a way for artists to apply to be featured on the homepage? How’s that work? Is it staff picks and also data driven?

  23. Posted April 11, 2013 at 6:53 am | Permalink

Thanks Steve (and this is for Sesay and Hoopy too). Answer for you up there.

Really good news! I’m on Bandcamp mainly because it’s not ruled by a few famous artists. The weekly is a great idea but could be ruined if it ceased to be independent from the artists: you should never allow artists or some fan to submit their music!!! The promotion should only come from original selection by the Bandcamp staff.
Thanks for developing this exciting music platform!

Awesome new site guys, very beautiful and love the new features. Bandcamp weekly is an amazing idea especially with the coupled illustrations! Are there plans to make this a podcast or download able feature to listen to on the move or offline? That’d be amazing!
