The Index Page

Those are all just standard Bandcamp-powered sites. The second two use the new image map feature to add site navigation to the custom header. But all three use the new index page feature to display a selection of releases when fans go to your site, rather than just bringing them straight to your latest release.

Setting up an index page is simple — look for the “Home page” section on your profile page and select “go to my index page”. Save your changes and your home page will now look something like this:

We pre-populate the grid with your existing catalog, but you can customize the page to highlight just a few releases, adjust their order, and so on. Click the plus/minus icons in the yellow bar to add or remove rows and columns. Click the “x” icon in the lower right of any release to remove it. And click the Set button in any cell to pick the release you want there:

To actually make the index page what people see when they go to yourband.bandcamp.com (or yourcustomdomain.com), click the “…to see this index page instead, click here” link in the yellow header, or go to your Profile page and look for the new section labeled “Home Page”:

P.S. The “change” link next to your band name in the Set Index Cell dialog lets you put any release on Bandcamp on your index page, rather than restricting it to just your own releases. In the next post, we’ll look at how a label can use this to power their roster’s music pages.

  2. Hello! Regarding index page.

    I’ve been thinking about emigrating to bandcamp with a few of my bands, I just have one question.

    None of the bandcamp pages I have seen has a startpage that does not feature an album or, from this post, a gallery of them.

    What I need is a startpage that features just a description of the band (with albums and contact in the sidebar).

    Is that possible here? If not, why?

The only thing that would make it better IMHO would be the option to show the description or date underneath the album/item on the front page so that people know what they are looking at right from the start. Perhaps this feature can be made optional for those who prefer a clean look?

  8. You guys are amazing! One feature I’ve been wishing for is the ability to turn off bonus items for free downloads, or certain download codes, that way you can spread yr music around, but still have some enticement to purchase, ie “Paid download includes full artwork plus early demos and alternate cuts!”

  10. Might I suggest optional ‘Headers’ for the various rows ie Out Now/Coming Soon/Sold Out or perhaps CD/Vinyl or Rock/Electronic or whatever.

    Great job though, nice to get all the releases on first sight of the page.

    -> I run a small Net-Label myself, and this makes things SO much easier.

    I agree with the above, a few stats on each album-cover would be sweet… And maybe even a way to include just a Play All Button, so you can just listen and sample it right from that page!

  18. This is excellent as everything you people do at bandcamp, but it’d be great if you add a Image Map generator/creator since most of us indie musicians are not HTML savvy.
