Bonus Download Items

Some recent highlights from the Bandcamp mailbag:

I’m selling a 10 track album with a 34 page PDF book. The album is the soundtrack to the photos. Is there a way I can package the two together?”

“I’d like to be able to offer some ‘treats’ to those who make a purchase, like more art, scans of lyric worksheets, various little things like that.”

I was wondering if you have the option of uploading hi-res cover art to your album page for people that want to print a card to insert into a jewel case?”

“I’d like to include high quality video with my album downloads. Possible?”

All eminently reasonable requests, so we’ve just launched the ability to include bonus items with any album download. You can add PDF booklets, videos, alternate art… pretty much whatever goodies you like, and we include them in the album’s zip file. You set this up in the album editor, like so:

bonus

Note that we now include your cover art in the zip automatically (and in the original size you uploaded), so no need to add that separately (unless you’re looking to include an even larger size). Enjoy!

  1. Very cool, but my friends like to include our source files (music project, mulitracks, whatever). Any chance to support .zip as a file upload?

    1. Let us know the file types you’d like to include and we’ll add them Peter (we’d rather allow the specific file types than just generally allow zip, which could contain exe’s and other scary stuff).

  2. Awesome stuff. I’ve been wanting this forever. Anyone know how to view Download Stats older than 60 days?

  3. I can’t thank you enough. When I first signed up to bandcamp I thought that perhaps I was dreaming and knowing my luck I would soon wake up in a pool of my own urine.

But alas, it was not a dream but a very pleasant reality that just keeps getting better…

Or worse, in a pool of someone else’s urine.

Seriously; another three thumbs up for bandcamp from here; first site in years that seems like they Get It for indie musicians…

  5. Great! Bandcamp’s getting better and better! Myspace can bite its own #$@!

One thing I would like to see is a possibility to comment or communicate with the artists. Like a wall or something, but to avoid spamming make it possible for the artist to approve the comments before they are published.

I can live without it though.

    Bandcamp rules!

  6. Wow, you guys never cease to amaze with your mind-reading new features. I want to work for you!

Any chance this could be limited to the “paid downloads” only? In other words, I want those that download for free (128K) to miss out on the liner notes and videos that those that donate the suggested minimum or more for the premium sound files would get?

    Does that make sense?

  7. I will never stop thanking you guys and singing your praises wherever i go! you guys just rock!! When i ‘make it big’ and sell out 250000 seat stadiums i will mention you guys i promise…..

errrrm ok when i play my local gig to a crowd of 10 (3 mates and their girlfriends and the venue staff – does the doorman standing one foot inside other foot out count? oh well if not then its just 9)…

    lol – thanks guys!

  8. Would it be possible to get to include auto-generated download codes for other albums? E.g. someone buys Album A and as a bonus they get B Sides Album X or some other bonus album I feel like bundling/giving away?

  9. Bandcamp….Keeps getting better and better and better and better and better, its the bestist, you know the Dopest out there….

  10. It would be really really cool if you could set it up so they only get the extra stuff if they purchase it. If you can already do this, how do you do it?
